Watching and seeing all the fuss about the Olympics in Vancouver, reminded me of the visit during the New Year of 2009 with Hans and Heather, where we drove up from Los Angeles, California and a few days later… here we were in Vancouver, British Columbia! Vancouver has so much to explore but our time was limited to only 2 days in Vancouver. I will be sure to revisit it again! Missing BC!

As a tribute to the Vancouver 2010 Olympic, here is the collection of some of my photos taken in Vancouver 2009

Vancouver Snow Playground drive slow

“The future lies before you, like paths of pure white snow.
Be careful how you tread it, for every step will show.”

I had this picture processed for few day before I have it posted here today. I was thinking of how to explain or what to write for this picture. And then… today while searching for an inspirational quote (as usual) I came across this quote and I find that to be the best fit for picture.

The picture was taken minutes after arriving at Vancouver, Canada… on late December 2008 during the road trip to 2009′s New Year countdown in Vancouver. Hans choose to show us a short cut to our hotel… what a great idea… NOT! Our car almost stuck in the snow because we had no tire chains on it. Fortunately, Hans gots skills and drove us out of there and back to the road.

my VERY first snow experience ever in my life! Vancouver, Canada! Just minutes into the New Year 2009!

Finally I got my iPhone updated to 3.0!!! So I thought I could send pics from my mobile vis MMS, but… NOPE! Whatever the reason is… I just don’t want to bother with it anymore. I couldn’t update my phone regularly via iTune because it locked to a US mobile carrier. If I were to update it normally, as I did once… the one expression I’d have is just… “EEK!” So I bring my phone to a shop at MBK, tell them my situation and they have it taken care of within the hour. Yes!!! Now I can CUT and PASTE! What else is good about 3.0? Ahh yes there is an application that allows me to BLOG on the iPhone! Sweet!

I still don’t know why the website’s server is so unstable that it is unavailable most of the time! Sigh…

Now the picture was taken at Vancouver, Canada just a few minutes after midnight on New Year 2009. It was my VERY first snow experience ever in my life! The falling snow feel greats… but the snow on the ground, does NOT!

Great times!!!

Vancouver Better together BW

Vancouver Better together

“Better Together”

There’s no combination of words
I could put on the back of a postcard
No song that I could sing
But I can try for your heart
Our dreams, and they are made out of real things
Like a, shoebox of photographs
With sepiatone loving
Love is the answer,
At least for most of the questions in my heart
Like why are we here? And where do we go?
And how come it’s so hard?
It’s not always easy and
Sometimes life can be deceiving
I’ll tell you one thing it’s always better when we’re together

[Chorus:]
MMM it’s always better when we’re together
Yeah, we’ll look at the stars when we’re together
Well, it’s always better when we’re together
Yeah, it’s always better when we’re together

And all of these moments
Just might find their way into my dreams tonight
But I know that they’ll be gone
When the morning light sings
And brings new things
For tomorrow night you see
That they’ll be gone too
Too many things I have to do
But if all of these dreams might find their way
Into my day to day scene
I’d be under the impression
I was somewhere in between
With only two
Just me and you
Not so many things we got to do
Or places we got to be
We’ll Sit beneath the mango tree now

It’s always better when we’re together
Mmmm, we’re somewhere in between together
Well, it’s always better when we’re together
Yeah, it’s always better when we’re together

MMmmmm MMMmmmm Mmmmmm
I believe in memories
They look so, so pretty when I sleep
Hey now, and when I wake up,
You look so pretty sleeping next to me
But there is not enough time,
And there is no, no song I could sing
And there is no, combination of words I could say
But I will still tell you one thing
We’re better together.

Tonight, I would like to dedicate this photo to the one and only “…” with the song “Better Together” by Jack Johnson. I’ll let the lyrics speak for itself.

in the middle of the night… looking at Vancouver, Canada

Vancouver night

Friday is just around the corner, the last day of exams and school! Staying up late has become the norm for the past weeks and I’ve just been drinking cups of coffee to stay awake. And that how it reminded me of the cold-chilly nights in Vancouver. The ground was icy, the guard rail was frozen, and the coldness just numb my finger while taking the picture. Never the less it was worth capturing the memory, the moment, and the feeling.

Yes, recently the post seem a bit short because all that I have in my head are hospitality marketing, accounting, advance culinary concept, room division… and the lists go on and on.

New beginnings are just around the corner. ^_^

Vancouver Frame

So, I was on the Bridge to Vancouver, Canada, and there is this arch that provides an amazing view. The view, to me, looks like a giant door that will lead somewhere UP HIGH… but in reality it is gonna drop DOWN Below into the ice cold sea.

I think I should try sky-diving and just leap!!!

need to cool down… how about some snow?

Vancouver Snow Bench

It’s has been so hot in Marbella lately and most of my posts the past week have just kept reminding me of how hot the weather is. I’ve had enough of the hot weather for now. I know it is nice but I need to cool down just a bit before I melt. So one way for myself to cool down is to close my eyes and think of that cold cold place and that is how I was remind of a picture that I took in North Vancouver. The same day that I took the picture for “a moment that I say -nothing-” as you can see below.

This week I will be traveling to Valencia, Spain and am also going to Granada to visit the Alhambra that I missed out on the last trip. Valencia… hum, I would really like to stop by The Hemispheric at the Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències (Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias) by Santiago Calatrava, Valencia, Spain.

Can’t wait to be there! Why? A personal obsession with Santiago Calatrave’s work… just because, they are awesome!

Vancouver Beach Panorama

On Sunday, I did some studying on the school balcony… bathing in the sun for an hour or so. Then in the afternoon, the weather suddenly changed from sunny to cloudy and windy, from hot to cold and chilly. Talking about the weather here in Marbella, Spain, it is strange !!! Is it really the work of global warming but what happened was that weeks ago it was raining all week long, and then it got hot for another week, and then suddenly we had a hail storm for a day… sigh…

That is how I started looking for picturess taken during New Year’s 09 in Vancouver, Canada because the weather and the clouds resemble the day that I visited Vancouver. Above is the Panorama of Vancouver on the bridge that lead to the “Tertisland” (another photo that I took from the port, below to the left of the picture) In that picture, you would see the bridge that I am standing on to take this picture ^_^

The experience was amazing, as I am standing in between the 2 worlds, one side full of building and its dynamic energy while the other side is more of natural, nice and calm. It’s created the perfect harmony during the moment on the bridge where everything seems to be balanced out with the melody from the sky.

Canada flag

Back to the first day of the year, January 1, 2009 (duhh) Cold, yes!!! very cold… I wasn’t prepared for this much coldness!!! Anyway, that day was a great walk, I must have spent about 5 hours walking in the snow, brown snow… sometimes yellow snow. Eww. From this location that I took the picture, it took me about 30 minutes or so to get down to the flag because I wasn’t wearing proper shoes, I had tennis shoes on… no waterproofing— nada! Walking to the flag wasn’t easy at all since I keep sinking into the snow that was about knee deep.

Ohh, I posted this picture today because I read an article about the Winter Games 2010 which is going to be in Vancouver. Great place, great choice, and great location for the Olympics. There were so much to see, to do, to eat and to explore here in Vancouver. We were there for only 3 days 2 nights, and it wasn’t long enough for us to do much. Well, we got to countdown in Vancouver… and after that, I got to experience the snow “actually snowing from the sky, real snow (not the man made stuff like in Big Bear, California)” for the first time in my life. And it was literally right after the year started!!! An amazing experience, what a great way to start my year!!!.

Okay, are you ready for Vancouver? Less than 12 months from now, is the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in Vancouver. Here is their official website Vancouver 2010.

P.S. I Love You.

Wood Bench Vancouver

“We are so arrogant aren’t we? So afraid to age… we do everything we can to prevent it… we don’t realize what a privilege it is to grow old with someone, someone who doesn’t drive me to commit murder or doesn’t humiliate you beyond repair… sweet!” a quote i found very very… true. It was from the movie “P.S. I LOVE YOU”

After i watched that movie, yesterday it reminded me of this picture that i took on the new year. Actually it is the same day that i took the “First sunset of the year, in Vancouver 01.01.09″. I imagine that, it would have been nice to have someone to sit there, together and just be there for each other, doing nothing, worrying about nothing, just be happy.

I don’t think that it is too much to ask for, or is it?

First sunset of the year, in Vancouver 01.01.09

vancouver sunset

Finally, the event, The Tale of Four Cities,  is over. That reminded me of how 2008 ended. To get this event to happen, we, us Post Graduate student, had many problems during the planning, lots of drama… just like everything else we do in life. Yet, we pull thru. It doesn’t matter what the problems are because the main point is that we must get it done, at whatever the cost. The most problems that I noticed with the management were, the lack of respect between and with one another in other departments, the inability to make decisions, problems moving on to the next subject and so on… These were the thing that happened during our event and I don’t see that they were bad things, because “every problem is an opportunity”. They are opportunities to reflect ourselves in those situations and as to how can we improve ourselves if these were to happen in “real” world situation. So yes, better to happen now rather than later in our career.

Just like a sun that would rise and set everyday, our life… is not that different from the sun. There are times that we will rise and there are times that we will be down, but that won’t last forever because we will again … RISE and SHINE to continue fighting “The battle”.

One day at a time.

Sometimes I wish I were a bird, so that I can fly to all the cities around the world to see, to feel and be free from “not being able to fly” duh. The shot was taken on the 1st of January 2009 around 1 am, after we came back from the countdown.

There were so much to see in Vancouver, but so little time!!!

Moving Forward, to the unknown… with H.L.a.F.

Share

sky

Asking myself, what am I doing, why am I here, when am I going to reach my destination and WHERE would I end up? Why so many questions??? I really don’t know, but the only thing I am certain of is that I am doing my best every single step of the way. With Hope, Love and Faith… I will keep walking forward to the unknown, I will only be two steps behind.

With that mood, today, I chose this picture. A picture that was taken somewhere in Canada on the way back to the United States border. I wonder, where would that take me if I were to keep walking toward the mountain where the golden light are shining, how long will it take, will I be able to make it and why do I want to go there?

Curiosity will take you to many places, but it is Hope, Love and Faith that will guide you to the destination… and with that, “the well will never run dry.”

Vancouver dock

Currently, I am living in Marbella, Spain. The closet beach we have here is Port Banus… as most of my friends know, I have an addiction with Beaches… Sand, Sound, Sea, Waves and Wind. But here, in Vancouver, the dock is to the far right behind the bridge. Here, it is placed in very unique in such a way that I cannot really explain. It was freezing cold at the moment I took the picture, 2 degrees Celsius, but I just really wanted to capture this moment.

I mentioned that it is very unique to me because I got the beach feeling here without the sand or waves. There were only wind and cold… but it was the peacefulness that captured me.

Looking at it further, it reminded me of my childhood when the only game I played was Tetris because those lines of buildings look exactly just like in the game. Don’t you think?

So finally, a friend of mine… Ye, mentioned to me that my English grammar is horrible. I really wish he read the first post where it mentioned that I need an editor. Still looking for a volunteer to work on this. How about you, Ye? I am sure you’re a fine candidate for this position.

But you know what I wanted to do to you? Drop you off the Capilano Suspension Bridge. Hehe, just kidding! I am sure that you enjoy the picture as well, right? And I am way too happy to know that you came to drop by on my website.

Thank you for your support. Come by more often, yah?

Vancouver Panorama Bridge

It has been so long that I’ve wanted to start a photoblog, finally it is up! Thank you to WordPress and DreamHost for making it so easy to start a blog and organize everything without having to do all those FTP things.

So I would like to start of with the picture that I took on January 01, 2009. After a long night counting down and all, I got up early in the morning and take bus to where ever it would take me and had come across this bridge. It was 2 degrees Celsius and it was my first time in a city with snow. So I was only wearing tennis shoes, jeans and tons of cloth. With those tennis shoes, it wasn’t enough, as I keep getting sunken into the snow ground that was knee deep! Okay, so it took me a while to get off the snowy ground and get on this bridge. And viola!

The plan is to keep posting at least 1 image per day from my photo archive. Please feel free to comment. And don’t forget to stop by for more updates.

*a quick notice… I am no English major, so cut me some slack on the spelling and grammar and just enjoy the photos ^_^
